Change Of Attitude

Posted by: Professor Anonymous on: 21 January 2009

My morning was no better than my night last night when I posted that…

I was grumpy already, before I even left the bed. My shower was too cold. My hair was too floppy. I missed J. before I was even out the door. The drivers on the way into work were fucking INSANE (I actually really wanted one of them to follow me and try to yell at me so I could call him a COCKFACE, no joke, I was obsessed with this concept halfway through my drive). The computers at work wouldn’t show YouTube thanks to a failed Adobe Flash Player install that no one’s figured out how to fix. (Luckily my video played through Internet Explorer; I’m such a Firefox fiend that I forgot another browser even existed.)

It was just… a horrible day in the making.

But my first two classes actually put an end to that; their level of conversation and engagement was really refreshing. I left my first half of the day on a puff of happy air, excited for the next two classes. My 11:15 was rather dead and depressing, but my 12:20 was smashingly brilliant and overall it was a successful teaching endeavor.

I have to say, however, that teaching (even when it goes well) is draining like a MOTHER EFF.

No joke, I am sapped. I can’t get up. I want to make dinner (Black Bean Banana recipe to be exact) but I just can’t lift a finger.

Maybe after a bit of a rest I’ll be ready to get back into the swing of things.

But the outlook is much, much better. Also big props to Becca, who has fished out a lot of very helpful information on public school teaching for me! You rock.

Mmkay, rest and then food. Then work. I pinky swear.

Re: Teaching is draining

I feel that way after every workshop or training I lead. I cannot imagine doing it 4 times a day! It just takes a lot of energy to motivate the slugs in the chairs. :) Glad most of your classes went well today!
