Update: Academic Limbo

Posted by: Professor Anonymous on: 28 April 2009

Interview is over.
Went well, I think? Not sure. It felt like yet another basic step interview like I had already done at each of the Teacher Fairs I have attended. They didn’t have any info from the online application process so they basically had no clue who I was or what I would be saying… [...]

In It To Win It

Posted by: Professor Anonymous on: 27 April 2009

I met with the Secondary Education Dept Head today, to discuss licensure in my state for public teaching.
Apparently, I currently qualify for provisional hiring, and would only need a few courses and tests to get my complete license.
This warrants joy like no one else knows. Honestly.
Because it means I have an honest shot at the [...]

Yikes, Stripes, Fruit Striped Gum.

Apparently I need deadlines like I need air.
Today I stayed home, feeling physically miserable because I have 58 papers to grade. (Hooray for two drop-outs! Less to grade!)
So I cancel class and tell myself: YOU MUST FINISH AT LEAST TWO CLASSES WORTH OF PAPERS TODAY.
But this is not enough of a deadline for myself, and [...]

My Day: A Streamlining of Chaos

Posted by: Professor Anonymous on: 21 April 2009

The part of myself will be indicated by the letter V. Just to clarify that shit.
(Scene 1: Morning Commute)
V: J, your alarm’s going off.
J: Szzznznnrl… wha?
V: J IT’S 7:20 WHAT THE FUCK WE SLEPT IN!
J: *yawns* Ah it’s okay, that’s just my “time to get going” alarm.
Me: Well… that’s my “oh shit you’re late” alarm [...]

Holy Crap.

Posted by: Professor Anonymous on: 17 April 2009

So… I just got a call from a local middle school inquiring my presence at an interview a week from next Tuesday.
Color me… confused. Happy, but confused. And I’m just glad that this meeting will be after my meeting with a JMU official to discuss my possible licensure, what I need to do to get [...]

What I Call a Bad Day To Be a Teacher

Posted by: Professor Anonymous on: 15 April 2009

Here is the email I just sent to my students… about an hour or so AFTER their class periods should have occured.
“Dear All,
Wow. What happened today?
I apparently did not make in to campus today, and I am terribly sorry that I did not email you all to let you know this was going to happen… [...]

Attitude Adjustment

Posted by: Professor Anonymous on: 8 April 2009

Yeah, that last post?
Sorry.
Things have gotten to me a lot more than they usually do, the stress I’m under is just… incomprehensible. And no one should get on my bad side right now; I think my students have comprehended this and stayed far far away.
But I’m doing better. Husband knew exactly what to do yesterday [...]

I’m Not Your Boyfriend, Baby.

Posted by: Professor Anonymous on: 7 April 2009

Hi again.
Sorry for my continued absence; I find it fairly hard to update a blog devoted to my teaching methods when I feel like I’m being a shitty teacher or when my students are being shitty human beings. I think it’s also a struggle for me in that I have no idea what I’m going [...]

thought of the moment:

No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick.

time flies.
