I had a bad day. Booked a Cookie Lee jewelry party, invited all my friends and family. Cookie Lee consultant didn’t show up. Won’t return my phone calls.

The only good thing was the scathing letter I got to write to the company.

Sorry you got sick. Sorry your academic dream is squashed by universities that mis-use adjuncts.

I’m totally there with you on the FML thing.

Laurie: Thank you darling! I ask for my students’ pet peeves as an ice breaker, for them and for myself. I also use them as a way to remember their names. A kid can tell you he’s from Jersey and he likes football, and you’ll forget him in 2 minutes. But have a kid rant about how much he hates when his roommate’s cell phone wakes him up with “Who Let the Dogs Out” every morning? You tend to remember him a bit more clearly. I find that griping about little things tends to bond the group together more coherently than any other ice breaker I’ve tried.

And no pressure in this here blog! Look, I’ll spell something wrong: suprise. Look. Look, it’s wrong. It’s driving me crazy.

I have a question about your students’ pet peeves. Do you ask for them? What do you use it for? Does it help you be nicer to them, or do you annoy them.

Do you know how much pressure it is, writing on an English Professor’s Blog???

You are a procrastinator because then you are forced to achieve something in a short period of time and it feels like winning? Sometimes I think that’s why I procrastinate. “Hey, I just wrote a 20 page paper overnight! How cool is that?” instead of “I wrote a 20 page paper over the course of a few weeks like I should have!” or something.
Good luck with everything and classes starting again and whatnot!!
